About
Through its research and development activities, the Center for Applied Energy Research e.V. (CAE) aims to transform ideas into practical solutions in collaboration with commercial enterprises and other research partners, thereby making the greatest possible contribution to a sustainable, carbon-neutral, and economically viable energy system. In doing so, the CAE serves as a bridge between basic research and market-oriented development. With its working groups ‘Climate-Neutral Buildings and Cities’, ‘Smart Functional Materials’, ‘Advanced Thermal Management’, ‘Sensors for Energy and Hydrogen Technology’, and ‘Energy System Management and Technology Integration’, CAE conducts essential research and development work for industry and drives innovation. In its own Innovation Hub, the future-oriented topics of ‘Hydrogen Technology’ and ‘Digitalisation in Energy Technology’ receive dedicated support, fostering synergies.
Role in the project
CAE serves as a scientific partner within the INDTEGRATE project. As an applied energy research institute, it contributes its expertise in thermophysical modeling and techno-economic optimisation at the system level to support the integration of SOEC technology into energy-intensive industrial processes. The focus of its role lies in the development and validation of the energy management system and the digital process twin. In addition, CAE leads the sustainability assessment, including environmental, greenhouse gas, techno-economic, and social impact analyses, thereby ensuring that the proposed SOEC-based solution is evaluated not only technically but also economically and ecologically.
